For Namesake

When I tell people my name I automatically get an Amen response. Well if you haven’t come across me just yet my name Aminah (Ah-mee-nah) means protected and secured with an African and Arabic origin.Along with my middle and last name since my mother is a musician at heart she made sure that my named flowed just like a song.My mom didn’t quite know if I was going to be a boy or a girl as she didn’t want to know what I would be until I was born. It is something about this chosen name from my mother and father that based on their choosing I was going to grow into my name and be extended grace from my heavenly father. Every time I went somewhere I felt God’s grace.I remember when I went to Washington,D.C. for the NYLC (National Youth Leadership Conference ) and I was heading back home and my suitcase was a little over the weight limit and I didn’t have the money to get back home with a much heavier suitcase.Although I had a round trip ticket I still had to find a way to free up some of that weight in my suitcase.I almost broke down because I didn’t have the money to get back home but there was a couple that said they would pay my way home with my heavy suitcase.After they said that I still wanted to do my best to see how it got so heavy all of a sudden so I pulled my suitcase to the side and opened it and saw my NYLC Handbook and coat and took them out.After that I was able to board properly.I thanked the couple that was truly God sent.I wish I knew their name’s or contact information but I don’t.I’m thankful for the random people that God has placed in my life to help me also while I went away to school If I needed something to eat or stay I had those people I could count on.Enough about me I wanted to give you a glimpse of my name but also  acknowledge some names in the bible that were changed and acknowledged by God.

• Jesus Christ, which means anointed savior is our heavenly father and the one whom has saved us from all of our sins on the cross as a new atonement in sacrificial offering for our sins
• Naomi changed her own name to Mara because she was bitter that her husband and son died.Ruth whom was a Maobite woman came to stay with her no matter how much she pushed her away .Naomi’s original meaning means pleasant.Why change our names to a negative meaning when God has already promised it as a
• Sarai was changed to Sarah which means princess or noblewoman (Genesis 17:15)
• Abram was changed to Abraham which means father of a multitude.Abraham was one of God’s chosen sons

Many times people choose names of their children maybe because they sound good and that is great too but get a meaning that your children will be able to grow into.I don’t know if you realize it or not but many of the names like Jesus,Abraham and Sarah are all names that were prophetic.They were spoken into existence of what they would be and we know when something is prophesied then it shall come to pass and line up with his word so lets look at the prophecy and covenant that has happened between two of these individuals.

• Jesus Christ was sent on earth as our savior and today we don’t have to continue to live in sin because he died so that we may be free from them including forgiveness from everything we have ever done in our past
• Abraham was asked by the lord to abandon everything and in return he would make of him a great nation and bless him with an abundant increase of favors (Genesis 12:1-2).Through all that he would attain he wanted an heir to pass it down to.Then, the lord told him that he would have his own heir to come from him and his wife Sarah.Instead of patiently waiting for the promise his wife Sarah intentionally suggested that their maidservant Haggar produce the child which her son’s name was Ishmael. If God promised you something wait for it and allow it to come to pass.Yeah I know it seems like forever especially for Abraham and Sarah whom were in their old age but this was something that they were believing God for instead they took a hold of it and messed it up.As promised God executed the promise as he said he would (Genesis 15:5) a lineage more than they can count which means their sons produced and multiplied their descendants.Their sons were Isaac,Jokshan,Ishbak,Zimran,Midian,Shuah and Medan.

These are just prime examples how some name have been prophesied and changed to God’s liking like the ones above.I just wanted to share just how special my name is and how the lord continues to show how much he loves me and protects me each and everyday.
