Bambelle is a brand of sophisticately crafted 18K Gold earrings made from clay formulated into elegant pieces and named thereafter of whitty phrases such as “Big Mama”,”Sweet Nothing” and “Rebellious Flower” . I recently had the pleasure of meeting Kimee at Rafael Cox presents: Women of Atlanta Fashion Show where she had colors specifically for the Breast Cancer Awareness event such as powder pink, grey and black. These earrings have been seen in Hype Magazine and on the likes of celebs such as Claudia Jordan and Tyra Banks.I also added that I would feature her brand along with the gorgeous earrings she gave me and I did just that. My personal comments for the entire line in general represents what a woman is supposed to be like when being presented to the world by being classy, elegant, bold and rather eclectic.Honestly when making jewelry or anything you have to leave your mark and I do believe that Bambelle will go far especially since its made with the finest materials. Its not everyday that you see jewelry made with clay right?.
I had a one on one interview with Kimee,The founder of Bambelle Jewelry check out the interview below.
Dainty Hanima: Tell me a little bit about you.
Kimee (Bambelle Jewelry): I am originally from Jamaica but we moved to the states in ’95 so I’ve been around. We settled down into New Jersey since 2001 and then we recently decided to moved to Atlanta for new change, new scenery and new people. I know a lot of my family migrated down here as well.
Dainty Hanima: When did you start creating jewelry?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry): I started designing back in 2012 but prior to that I was going to school for Graphic Design so I didn’t really have any intentions on being a jewelry designer it pretty much happened overnight. I know I wanted to be a designer but I didn’t know exactly what to design besides logos and graphics but it was a spur of the moment type thing. To be honest you know I do have to go religious but when God is working through you he shows you the way and your purpose. So I know when I started my jewelry line I didn’t know what tyoe of materials or what the name would be. When I started sketching designs I knew I wanted my jewelry to be unique and still be elegant and have a very futuristic feel to it.Im into geometric shapes so I knew I wanted to play with them.As time progressed I found out in order to make these shapes I would have to find the materials that I can manipulate and that’s when I cane up with clay.Ive done a lot of research so that’s how I came into the business.
Dainty Hanima: What kind of pieces do you sell?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry): Right now since I started I sell earrings but I eventually want the rings to match the earrings. My overall idea is to do all kinds of accessories. From earrings, rings, pins, necklaces to men’s jewelry. Im also putting out two collections within the next month or so.
Dainty Hanima: How do you come up with the names for each piece of jewelry?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry):I don’t have a specific way of how I come up with it I have a book of names that I haven’t used yet and after I get done sketching it out and putting the colors together. Whatever the name of the collection is I can pretty much go from there. Whichever one that pops out and speaks to me that’s the one I’ll choose .
Dainty Hanima: What sets you apart from other jewelry makers and enthusiasts?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry: I think honestly what sets me apart is I think just the overall style of my jewelry and the concept. The designs are really what sets me apart. A lot of jewelry designers have but they have unique pieces bit majority of their pieces are traditional metals, pearls and diamonds. Also, the materials I use are different from everyone else’s.
Dainty Hanima: I do understand that all of your pieces are handmade. How long does it take you to create one piece of jewelry and what’s the process?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry) The time always varies. If they are studs .I have to make stencils of the shapes, cut out the clay ,bake it in the oven and let it dry.A pair of studs requires an hour and the larger the size the more time it requires.
Dainty Hanima: What was your motivation for starting this jewelry line?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry): I think my overall motivation was to make my own history, create my own path. I know I won’t be here forever but I want to create something I could leave behind. You have to create your own business and do what you’re passionate about.
Dainty Hanima: What is a memorable moment or two for your jewelry line?
Kimee(Bambelle Jewelry):To be honest when I was watching Rachel Ray show and Tyra Banks was on it and she was wearing this beautiful black gown and she had my earrings on. Another memorable moment was when I purchased an issue of Hype Hair Magazine and I see five pages of five different women wearing the earrings. I made. I was really shocked but it gets you emotional because at the end of the day those were your thoughts.People are actually feeling them and putting them in magazines. It really just changed my whole outlook.
Dainty Hanima: What would be one word that the readers should take from you and what Bambelle stands for and why?
Kimee (Bambelle Jewelry): BOLD and the only reason why it’s not you and it’s stepping out of your comfort zone and that’s what my jewelry is all about.
